Over 128 million people will cast ballots for the National Assembly and provincial assembly on Thursday, which will choose Pakistan's new five-year administration. Thousands of candidates are vying for 336 seats in the National Assembly and 749 seats in Provincial assembly.
People have a right to expect poll results promptly; based on unofficial results, the results of the highly anticipated Pakistani elections could be announced before midnight or early on Friday.
The Election Commission of Pakistan is required by Section 98 of the Elections Act to publish official results within 14 days of the election; Official results should be released by Thursday, February 22, as the election is set for February 8.
Additional Director General (ADG) Nighat Sadique stated in a press conference that presiding officers were required to send the election results to the election commission by 2 am on February 9.
The ECP ADG expressed confidence that Pakistan's newly elected government would take office by 10 a.m. after the election results were finalized.
