ISLAMABAD: Sexual violence is a problem that affects women both in Pakistan and globally. A recent alarming incident occurred in the E11 sector of Islamabad, where a female student at a private university was subjected to gang rape by her classfellows. The horrific event took place within the jurisdiction of the Shalimar Police Station area of the federal capital.
Authorities filed a case based on the victim's complaint, and are currently carrying out raids to capture the men who are suspected. The victim went to the Shalimar police station and described the abuse she endured at a flat in Sector E11 of Islamabad. She claimed that on January 30, she went to E-11/2 for dinner with one of the students and his other friend, but that is when she was sexually assaulted.
The student reported to police that she was sexually attacked by one of her classmates, Zaheer, and his companion Daniyal; the two even took a video of the victim, which they threatened to publish if the victim contacted anybody about the incident or the police, according to the FIR.
Since sexual violence is a result of deeply seated cultural concerns, the second gang rape in Islamabad's E11 shocked the people living in the federal capital.
