The Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index, which rates nations on a scale from 0 (very corrupt) to 100 (very clean), showed that Singapore retained its ranking as the fifth least corrupt nation in the world in 2023 with a score of 83, unchanged from the previous year.
The country's corruption situation "remains firmly under control," according to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), which is in charge of combating corruption in Singapore. The CPIB cited the consistently low number of public sector corruption cases as well as Public Perception Surveys, which consistently show strong public confidence in Singapore's anti-corruption measures.
Singapore performed exceptionally well in other international rankings in addition to the Transparency International index. For example, the World Justice Project Rule of Law Index 2023 ranked Singapore third out of 142 countries in the world for the lack of corruption, demonstrating the country's dedication to preserving institutional integrity and the rule of law.
Further recognizing Singapore's anti-corruption efforts, the Political and Economic Risk Consultancy's 2023 “Report on Corruption in Asia” ranked Singapore as the top economy out of 16 in the region, highlighting Singapore's accomplishments in creating a transparent and ethical business environment.
Singapore has demonstrated resilience and effectiveness in its anti-corruption endeavors despite recent challenges, including the resignation of Transport Minister Subramaniam Iswaran due to corruption charges. The country's ability to navigate such incidents without compromising its global standing reflects its unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability.
