The Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9 Quetta Gladiator's captain will be South Africa's Rilee Rossouw, the team announced on Tuesday. Sarfaraz Ahmed, who led the team to three finals and helped them win the title in 2019, will only be used as a wicketkeeper-batsman in this year's edition.
Both Rilee Rossouw and Pakistan's Saud Shakeel were considered, but the team ultimately opted to go with the seasoned batsman from South Africa, who was a major factor in Quetta Gladiators' 2019 PSL victory.
After talking with Shane Watson, the new head coach, and the team management, Quetta Gladiators owner Nadeem Omer confirmed Sarfaraz's desire to temporarily relinquish his captaincy. Nadeem also expressed his happiness that Shane Watson is back with the team, citing his outstanding play in 2018 and 2019.
He also extended an invitation to Kevin Pietersen to rejoin the team, comparing it to reuniting the Quetta Gladiators family.
