In Magura, Shakib Al Hasan won a seat in Bangladesh General elections.
According to a statement from the government, Bangladeshi cricket captain Shakib al Hasan has secure significant victory, a parliamentary seat on Sunday in a general elections that the opposition had boycotted from.
The versatile 36-year-old cricketer, who captains the team in all formats, defeated his opponent by a large m
argin of more than 150,000 votes in the Magura constituency, located in the western town, according to Abu Naser Beg, the district's top administrator.
Naser Beg described the victory as a "landslide victory," but there has been no immediate comment from Shakib, who ran as a candidate for the ruling Awami League party led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Prime Minister is widely expected to secure a fifth term in power, especially since the main opposition, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), choose to boycott the election.
Despite temporarily stepping away from cricket for his campaign, Shakib rejected suggestions that he could not effectively balance his roles as a lawmaker and cricket captain, stressing that he had not retired.
Shakib, who is known for his angry nature, has been involved in a number of disputes, including a three-match ban for making a vulgar gesture to a television crew and once frightening a spectator with a bat.
Shakib made his international debut as a batting all-rounder at the age of 19 in 2006 is the only person to hold the number-one all-rounder ranking in all three cricket formats at the same time, according to the International Cricket Council. He rose to popularity as a teenager, joining the country's premier sports academy.
