HAMILTON – After defeating Pakistan by 21 runs in the second Twenty20 International (T20I) on Sunday in Hamilton, New Zealand now leads the five-match series 2-0. The Green Shirts had been chasing a winning target of 195 runs, but they were all out for 173 in 19.3 overs
No other batter was able to reach double figures; Adam Milne claimed four wickets, Tim Southee, Ben Sears, and Ish Sodhi each claimed two, and Finn Allen was named player of the match for his outstanding half-century. Babar Azam led all scorers with 66 runs, followed by Fakhar Zaman's rapid fire fifty. Shaheen Shah Afridi chipped in with 22 runs.
New Zealand started well when they were allowed to bat first, but the Green Shirts rallied in the second half to limit the hosts to 194 at the loss of eight wickets in the 20 overs.
With 74 runs, Finn Allen continued to lead the Blackcaps in scoring. Mitchell Santner scored 25, Kane Williamson scored 26 before leaving the game with a hamstring injury.
Afridi said after the toss that it was a good wicket with decent ground measurements and that he hoped Abbas Afridi would continue to perform better after a good debut in Auckland. Haris Rauf took three wickets, all in his last and penultimate over of the innings; Abbas Afridi took two wickets, and Aamer Jamal and Usama Mir took one wicket each.
Although the conditions and venue were different, according to Kane Williamson, bowlers performed admirably in the first encounter. Pakistan stuck with the same playing eleven that was defeated by New Zealand in the opening Twenty20 International in Auckland.
