There is going to be a leadership transition at the PCB, as Mohsin Naqvi is expected to become chairman in the next elections, which might happen as early as next week.
The position became available when Zaka Ashraf, who had been chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) since July of last year, resigned shortly before the conclusion of his most recent three-month extension. The IMC's mandate was to finalize the composition of the Board of Governors (BoG) and hold elections for chairmanships within four months.
The PCB's patron, caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar, granted the committee an extra three months since this could not be completed in the time allotted.
The caretaker chief minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, has been nominated to take over as chairman of the board of governors, opening the door for him to be elected as well. Naqvi is anticipated to stay in government until the Pakistani general elections on February 8.
Shah Khawar, PCB election commissioner, will call a meeting to clarify the PCB election schedule while holding the interim chairmanship. The newly elected chairman will be in office for a period of three years.
It will be the end of a year without a properly elected PCB head if Naqvi, who has no prior experience in cricket administration, wins the chairmanship.
