Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh recently offered his thoughts on Pakistan's cricket team's captaincy change that occurred after the World Cup.
Cricket is important in both India and Pakistan, and a team's World Cup performance can have a significant impact on players' careers. Harbhajan stated on a local cricket website that the captaincy change was a reaction to Pakistan's poor World Cup performance. However, he believes the decision was not made at the right time.
While acknowledging and appreciating Babar, he also made the point that it is critical to value the other members of the Pakistani team.
"Although Babar is a good player, the team features other players with talent. In both of our countries [India and Pakistan], we have a tendency to give a player a lot of credit while sometimes undervaluing the contributions of other players. Babar receives a lot of attention, just like Virat Kohli does. But teams do not win when one player performs well on their own; they win when the whole team does."
He continued by saying that it is critical to acknowledge the contributions made by each member of the team because cooperation is what makes a team strong.
It should be mentioned that Babar Azam resigned as captain of all formats after Pakistan's squad had an unsatisfactory World Cup in 2023, finishing in fifth place on the points table and missing out on semi-final qualification.
