Canada is preparing to attract highly skilled IT professionals who excel at remote work by announcing plans to create a framework that will allow entrepreneurs to apply for extended work licenses that could last up to three years. In response to the growing trend of digital nomadism, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada spokesperson Isabelle Dubois emphasized the anticipated benefits, stating, "We anticipate that some digital nomads will opt to stay in Canada."

This strategic step is consistent with Canada's goal to creating an environment that supports remote workers, and the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Office has stated that further information about this project would be released in the coming months.

According to a recent MBO Partners study, the number of Americans identifying as digital nomads has increased to 17.3 million, accounting for about 11% of the workforce, a 2% increase from 2022, indicating a growing preference for freelancing and remote work. As this trend is expected to continue in the coming years, Canada's proactive measures aim to capitalize on the evolving dynamics of the global economy.
