Pat Cummins, who won the World Cup, has won the Sir Garfield Sobers ICC Cricketer of the Year award for 2023, beating out India's Virat Kohli, New Zealand's Ravin Rachindra, and Travis Head.

Cummins had a spectacular year in 2023, capturing the ICC Test Championship and the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup. The immensely skilled allrounder led his team from the front, taking 59 wickets in 24 matches and scoring 422 runs across all formats.

After suffering a major loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India early last year, Pat Cummins reinvigorated the Australian squad and thrashed them by a massive 209 runs in the World Test Championship Final.

The Kangaroos then went on to defend 'The Ashes' series against England in the summer of 2023. The historic series finished in a draw, with both teams tied 2-2 at the end of the fifth test.

Australia, headed by Cummins, won their fifth ODI World Cup, demonstrating that they are the true comeback kings on the grandest stage. After losing two games at the start of the tournament, they won seven games in a row to win the cup.

The Australian skipper had many notable individual performances in all formats in 2023, including a 10-wicket haul against Pakistan in the Boxing Day Test match.

Pat Cummins thanked the team and the fans upon taking the award, saying, "It is a fantastic honor; it is been a big year, with plenty of wonderful team achievement, and to win this individual praise is huge."

Australia's three-match T20I Series against New Zealand will now be captained by Cummins and start in late February.
