The nomination papers of Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari, Maryam Nawaz, and Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, have been approved by Pakistan's Election Commission. This development is part of the ongoing examination of the nomination papers filed by candidates in preparation for the general elections in 2024.
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's nomination papers were approved without objection in NA-130 (Lahore). Although objections were submitted for the National Assembly seat, Maryam Nawaz, the PML-N's Chief Organizer, got permission for her nomination papers from a provincial constituency.
Former President and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari's nomination papers from NA-207 (Nawabshah) were also approved by the Election Commission.
The returning officers approved Maryam Nawaz's nomination papers for the Lahore and Sargodha constituencies, according to her spokesperson. She does, however, remain open to running in the party's designated constituencies.
Maryam Nawaz filed nomination papers for three National Assembly seats (NA-119, NA-120), as well as four Punjab Assembly seats (PP-159, PP-160, PP-165, and PP-80). Despite local lawyers' protests, including her conviction and possible signature forgery, the returning officers rejected the concerns and approved her nomination papers.
In a related development, PPP leader Zulfikar Ali Badr announced that Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari's nomination papers for Lahore's NA-127 had been approved.
This marks a significant advancement in the election process, with important participants obtaining clearance for their nominations. Stay tuned for additional updates as the election season progresses.
